Costa Rica has been the last Latin American country to announce its Oscar candidate as today is the submission deadline for the foreign-language film category for the 87th annual Academy Awards. The Central American country has selected Red Princesses / Princesas rojas by Laura Astorga, which had its premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in 2013. The film follows 11-year-old Claudia and younger sister Antonia are the daughters of Sandinista activists who are forced to flee Nicaragua for Costa Rica in the 80s.
